Happy new year!! I have been busy since my last post, but more so with a certain cheeky monkey than with illustrating. Am finally getting snippets of time during the day to do some quick doodles, and I'm grateful for these little moments. This new year illustration was meant to celebrate not just the Pantone color of the year, but all inhabitants of the land, sea and air represented by the bear, octopus and owl. It's my interpretation of wishing everyone everywhere a peaceful and happy year to look forward to! Here's to a wonderful 2018!
Here's one of my newest card designs - a thank you card for all monkey-lovers and those born in the year of the monkey (that's this year!). I couldn't find a thank you card that I liked for my obstetrician, so this was the result. A "thanks a bunch" from our cheeky little monkey who is due to arrive any day now! You can get your hands on a copy here.
Found this little doodle from December last year. My little tribute to the shiny one we called Black Bear (for the lack of a more creative name). He was exclusively made by Gund for Jan's Bear Essentials and is no longer for sale. If you didn't know, I'm a massive Snuffles fan. Not the new ones. The ones from the 1980s that I grew up with. Preferably the ones still made in Korea.
I was going to meet a very special little girl, the daughter of a family friend. We hardly get the chance to see her and she was so excited to surprise us with her visit so we decided that it was only fitting to gift her with something just as special to us. Black Bear it was. Bye bye Black Bear, I miss you tons but I also know you're being loved to bits by a little Japanese girl and that makes it better.
Happy Valentine's Day! Or Friendship Day! Or Singles' Day! Whatever you call it and however you celebrate it, I hope you have a wonderfully lovely day! xx
Aside from the Color*Away collection, there are three more designs in color that will be turned into tea towels in the future. Have mastered the basics in sewing recently, so that's a good start I think!! :)
They're here...the Color*Away fabric collection! I have a small stash of each pattern in lovely organic cotton sateen that I'm hoping to turn into tea towels at some stage. A wee bit more is exclusively available through Piggledee as little pouches, bags and totes with plans to offer small fat quarter bundles later in the year for those who have their own projects in mind. Can't wait... imagine the hours of fun for you or your little ones trying to decide what colors to use and where to color in! :)
Hello, new year! Here's to more lovely things to look forward to this year! What's on your list for 2016?
I've been settling into my new home at Redbubble these past few weeks and am loving it so far! Have you heard of it before? I can't believe I haven't until now!!
Having the freedom to see my illustrations get translated into tangible objects like phone cases, baby onesies, notebooks, scarves and other things has been really great. (They make great presents at this time of year!!). I also love that its headquarters are on local soil in Melbourne and was co-founded by fellow Aussies. It also helps that my Sushimania design was featured on Found (Nov 18th), a daily sampling of curated designs that Redbubble features.
If you've got an itch to customize something with your own work of art, there's no harm signing up for an account for yourself! Or if you'd rather browse other artists' designs, there are plenty to choose from that's already there! Come and have a look now! (And no, this isn't a sponsored post. You know I wouldn't have that kind of stuff on here! I just really like it so far and am excited to share.)
It's nearly time to hibernate the shop, so these are the last Gloriousmess! goodies to be offered for a wee while. Plus, these are all original paintings - gouache directly onto hand-cut clay. From my hands to yours. With a touch of classy gold scattered throughout the sepia brown illustrations. Makes them just that wee bit more special and well, the gold certainly gets me in a holiday mood!
They'll go on sale tomorrow morning in my Etsy shop, and once gone, will be gone forever! Hope they find some happy homes.. will one of them find their way onto your tree or present this year?
My friends at Piggledee and I decided to have some fun with the pattern-mania that was Inktober 2015. We printed up a mini storm of fabric in luscious stretchy organic cotton and a thicker cotton canvas. I must say, am very pleased with how they turned out!
They are in the process of being turned into all sorts of cute bags and pouches in classic Piggledee style and I can't wait to get my hands on some once they're up for sale on the Piggledee site!
Hello and welcome to Oh, what a Gloriousmess! This is where all gorgeously awesome people and things gather - from art & design to lifestyle, mind & body tips and everything in between. Pull up your chair, make yourself comfy and come say hello - I'd love to get to know you!
