Well, better late than never, I say! Actually, no. Scratch that. It's going to be Chinese New Year in 2 more days, so here's my chance to usher in some changes along with the year of the Horse.
The plan is to create and stick to a stricter weekly routine so I can maximize my time. At the moment, it's all a bit scattered and every day is a surprise! Whilst this keeps things interesting, it can also cause uber amounts of stress on some days when orders pile up, or things unexpectedly crop up. Like arranging for broken laptops to be picked up, or tracking my supplies that seem to disappear off the radar once they hit Sydney. Little things like these often end up chewing through huge chunks of time and before I know it, the day's gone with no more time for blog posts and social media updates. Sad face.
A method I've come across involves allocating only one task per day. Just one?! Yes, it might seem like a waste of time and frankly, a luxury to be able to just accomplish one thing a day but there's more to it than that. Whether this works also depends on your personality and working style. The idea is to help you focus. To allocate, for example, Monday as blogging day and spend the whole day churning out blog posts guilt-free. No more "oh, I should so be updating my Facebook page because it's been too quiet" or "oh, I need to come up with a new product design for such-and-such holiday" because everything will have its turn. Tuesdays could be "Come up with a new design" day and Wednesdays could be "Research new articles for sharing" day and so on. Get my drift?
I've never been one to sit down and list resolutions for new year, and this isn't a habit I'm about to start. This is more about catching yourself before you fall and learning to make things easier for yourself. So, wish me luck and maybe you can join me in establishing a new habit for yourself too!
