CurlieQ was derived from my younger self, so it was much easier for me to develop both her appearance and personality. I was really one fat kid before I started kindergarten. Imagine the Pillsbury Doughboy or the Michelin Man and you'll be starting at the spitting image of a baby me.
What is it in a new character that attracts you? Is it their general appearance? Or their clothes? Or personality? Or something else you can't quite place your finger on? For me, it's about finding a connection with a character (which usually ends up looking quite cute, round and chubby...), so I guess that falls under the "can't quite place your finger on" category.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
People come in all shapes, colors and sizes and it's little wonder that the same holds true in the fictional world of cartoon characters. Coming up with an eye-catching character is usually not something you do in a few minutes. Research (especially if it's for someone else) and personal experiences play a large role in shaping (literally!) the final character.
